Tipi Counselor/Activity Leader

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. At least one year of college or equivalent experience/training/maturity.
  2. An aptitude for and an interest in working with boys, ages 10-14.
  3. Comfortable in the outdoors, content to live in a tipi, and knowledgeable of or willing to learn outdoor skills.
  4. Good moral character, honest, caring, flexible, hard-working, and a non-smoker.

Tipi counselors live in a tipi with a group of four boys of various ages and take responsibility for the health and well being of those campers. They help campers set and meet individual goals, take an interest in campers’ daily activities and know how they spend their free time. Counselors also have written contact with their campers’ parent(s) each week during each session according to an established schedule. In addition to tipi responsibilities, counselors are expected to lead a variety of activities (see list below). You may already have many of these skills. Others are taught during Staff Week, and quite a few are learned right along with the campers during the course of the summer.
